Farewell Ole' Farmhouse
After much thought and deliberation Brandon's parents made the difficult decision to demolish their 1919 Farmhouse and build a new home in the same location instead of trying to renovate. Brandon and his parents moved into the farmhouse in 1996 and made several changes including adding the front porch and a sun room.
Moving to "The Farm" in 1996 brought many changes. Brandon's family moved from a house in Lynchburg. The farm had been vacant for two years prior to Brandon's family moving in. They poured lots of sweat, blood, and tears into this farm to make it what it is today...building a horse barn, tearing down several out buildings, fencing, etc. Brandon's parents taught themselves to be "farmers" they bought cows, horses, and chickens and learned as they went. The farm and farmhouse in a way became symbolic of a new start.
We were fortunate to be able to build our house on the farm. Taegan is definitely a little farm girl she loves riding on the tractors, digging in the garden, chasing chickens, helping with the horses and cows... I am so glad we can raise our children on a farm.
Even though the house needed lots of work and it made sense for them to start fresh rather than try to renovate it was a bittersweet process to move out and see their home of 16 years torn apart and hauled away. Brandon and I happened to be at the beach (see previous blog entry) during the actual demolition therefore I wasn't able to get any pictures of the house "coming" down. The bottom picture is how things look right now. As we drove up the driveway on our way home Taegan said "Oh No...Grandma and Papa's house broken, we have to build them another one!" So now the construction starts!
